NETWORK BASIC CONCEPT AND TERMS



  •  Communication:- Communication means to establish link  between places or people to share information and resource.     Or,

     Communication is the process of   transferring a message from one point   to another.

   There are three  basic elements of any communication system :-

   1. Sender – A sender that creates and       sends a message.
   2.  Medium – A medium that carries the       message.
   3.  Receiver – A receiver that receives     the message.
  Network:- Network refers to inter-connected group of people object, computers etc., which can exchange information and resources among themselves.
  Advantage of Network
   1.  Sharing of Files:- Networking enables   to share files among different nodes   or  workstation.
   2. Sharing of Resource: - Networking also helps in sharing of hardware devices.
  3. Fast Delivery:- Networking helps in instant delivery of information.
    4. Reduce Cost:- In a Network, data or information are transferred at a very low cost.


Terminology of Network 

  1.Network Interface Unit (NTU):-
   A network interface unit is a device attached to each node and thus is connected to the server. It acts as an interface to establish connection between networked computer and an outside network.
  •  NIU(Network Interface Unit) is also known as NIC (Network Interface Card).
  •  MAC(Media Access Control) Address:-  A unique physical address is given to each Network Interface Card by it’s manufacturer, known as MAC Address.

 2.Workstation:-It refers to the computer connected in a network. Workstation is also known as node.
  3.Server:- It is a centralized computer that has huge storage capacity and very high processing speed. It acts as an. Intermediary between two or more computers which  are on network.
